A True Sakhi: The Power of a True Guru — Freedom for a Bound Soul
जब तांत्रिक शक्तियाँ सच्चे गुरु के सामने हार गईं
Guru Maharaj Sant Trilochan Darshan Das Ji — heard this true sakhi from his grandfather Papaji (father of Maharaj Darshan Das Ji), Mata Ji, and a few other devotees.
This is a real incident connected with Hazur Maharaj Ji, one day, a tantric aghori arrived in the attire of a sadhu. He wore long malas around his neck, had jata (matted hair), and carried a fearful appearance. He came before Guru Maharaj Ji and began trying to use his acquired occult powers on Guru Maharaj Darshan Das ji.
The tantric removed a large bead mala from his neck and held it towards Guru Maharaj Ji, attempting to display his powers. Maharaj Ji simply looked at the mala — and instantly, the mala broke apart, its beads scattering everywhere.
Even after this, the tantric became more anxious and continued trying to use stronger powers. Guru Maharaj Ji calmly sat there, eating peanuts (mungfali), patiently allowing him to do whatever he wished.

When the tantric had exhausted all his powers and had nothing left to try, Maharaj Ji gently said while eating peanuts, “Are you finished? All your tantric practices cannot affect me.”
Maharaj Ji then said, “I can see you have gained siddhis and have enslaved a soul. The same mantra you tried to use on me — none of it works here. Your mantras have only burdened you. Whatever you earned through your practices, you have wasted today.”
Maharaj ji continued, “Two months ago, you bound a soul — a person who committed suicide by falling into river. That soul is now pleading to be freed because it remains trapped by you. Will you release it yourself, or shall I show you my Guru’s power? I do not wish to waste my Guru’s grace on this, so I advise you to free it on your own.”
Hearing this, the tantric became fearful. Yet, in his arrogance, he replied, “Now you will enslave this soul.”
Maharaj Ji smiled and said, “Do you even know my Guru? My God teaches that no one has the right to enslave another soul. I have been sent to free people from such dark paths.”
Still doubtful, the tantric continued questioning. Seeing the poor state of his understanding, Maharaj Ji decided to reveal the truth. He called upon the soul that the tantric had bound.
The soul appeared in a pishach form — suffering greatly. It had taken its own life due to deep sorrow, unable to provide for its family. Such wandering souls are often trapped by tantrics, whom people call bhoot or bhootni, and are forced to obey them.
Through the aghori’s own body, Maharaj Ji spoke with the suffering soul. The soul cried, saying that even after death it had found no peace and was enduring immense suffering because of suicide.
Guru Maharaj Ji compassionately instructed the soul, “Your family is connected to the Guru. I now send you to your Guru’s ashram. Stay there, listen to satsang and mantra for one year and fifteen days. After that, you will be freed from this pishach form.”
With Guru’s grace, the soul was released and guided toward liberation.
As written in Gurbani:
Pashu pret mugadh koh tareh,
Pahan paar utareh,
Nanak das teri sharnayi sada,
Sada balihare.
The— animals, ignorant beings, and even restless souls receive mercy through the Guru. Those who come to the Guru’s refuge, whether in animal form, spirit form, or human birth, cross the worldly ocean through the Guru’s grace.
