How the Guru Tests the Devotee’s Faith and Patience

When we reach the feet of the Guru, even if we are in extreme need, a deep sense of peace and contentment arises within. We say to the Guru,

*“You have already showered immense mercy upon me; I am blessed to be your devotee.”*

Seeing such calmness and faith — knowing that the devotee truly needs something yet chooses not to ask — God Himself begins to worry about fulfilling all the devotee’s needs. Out of compassion, He starts blessing that soul with everything required in life.

Once, there was an incident when **Hazur Maharaj Darshan Das Ji** saw a young devotee and promised him that He would buy him a new winter jacket, as the cold season was approaching and the boy didn’t have one.

The devotee happily accepted the blessing. Time passed, but Hazur Maharaj Ji either forgot — or perhaps deliberately chose to forget — as it was part of His divine test. Days went by, and Guru Ji neither mentioned the jacket nor bought it for him.

After some time, the devotee finally bought a jacket for himself. When Guru Maharaj Ji saw him wearing it, He called the boy and said,

“Son, you bought the jacket?”

The boy replied humbly,

“Yes, Guru Ji, I thought you had forgotten, so with your mercy I got this one myself.”

Guru Ji smiled gently and said,

“Son, I did not forget. I wanted to see how long you could hold faith in My words and wait for My mercy. Even without the jacket, I never let you feel cold — that itself was My protection and grace. But now that you have taken your own step, you have chosen your way.

The mercy I had planned for you will now come in another form — not the same I had intended, had you waited with complete faith.”
