Before & After Sleep: Simple Techniques for a Restful Mind and Healthy Brain
A good night’s sleep does more than just rest the body — it rejuvenates the mind, repairs neuron cells, and improves overall brain functioning. Just like a computer needs to shut down and close all open files to function properly, our mind also requires a conscious “shutdown” before sleep to recover from daily stress and emotional fluctuations.
Here’s how you can implement this simple yet powerful routine for better sleep and improved mental health:
1. Close the Day’s Chapters
Before going to bed, make it a habit to mentally “close” all the open chapters of your day. Reflect on what you accomplished, what you could have done better, and consciously let go of any stress, frustration, or negative thoughts. This mental closure helps your brain transition into a calm state, ready for recovery.
2. Disconnect from Technology
Switch off all technology at least two hours before sleep. This includes mobile phones, television, computers, and other electronic devices. Studies show that rays emitted from these devices continue to affect brain function even while asleep, preventing neuron cells from fully recovering. Disconnecting allows your brain to restore itself naturally, reducing stress and anxiety.
3. Chant the Divine Name
Spend at least 15-25 minutes chanting the divine name before sleep and after waking up in the morning. This practice, especially when guided by a True Spiritual Master, helps empty the mind of unnecessary thoughts and worries, creating a peaceful mental state. It prepares your brain to close “open files,” much like a system shutdown, and ensures a deep, restorative sleep.
4. Let the Energy of God Guide You
When the mind is calm and empty of distractions, the energy of God can reside within. This divine energy not only improves your focus but also allows you to perform daily tasks effortlessly and with greater clarity.
